The 2016 Audi S7 has been given a modest refresh. These minor cosmetic and mechanical changes go a long way toward making a great car superb.

The old S7 hit 60 mph from zero in an impossibly quick 3.9 seconds and stormed through the quarter-mile mark in 12.3 seconds at 112.1 mph. The best part is that this is not the ferocious RS7 so if you want more speed, find more money.

Under the hood, the S7’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 has been reworked, increasing horsepower from 420 hp to a healthy 450.  Torque figures stay the same at 406 lb-ft. Seemless shifts are provided by Audi’s 7 – speed dual clutch unit

Our expectations are that the car will shave a couple of tenths off the 0-60 time thanks to the extra power and lighter weight due to the the modular-longitudinal MLB platform. This in turn should provide better handling and make the car feel both nimble and quick.

Exterior changes are subtle but do improve the overall look. The current model’s front fascia with its rectangular lower air intakes has been replaced by a treatment that provides a cleaner but still sporty look. New LED headlight and taillights taken from the A7 and RS7 are an improvement. No change to the   quadruple exhaust pipes though.

The interior was already one of the nicest in its class, and now has been upgraded to the level of the A7 and RS7. The MMI infotainment and telematics system has been updated to the latest version. A Head-up display is now standard on Audi S7 and RS7. Beaufort walnut wood trim and Valcona leather is now available . Other options include a touchpad controller (MMI Touch) and Audi connect in-car internet with high-speed LTE connectivity. Audi also offers a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system.

A U.S. launch will take place next year, as the car is arriving as a 2016 model.
